Semantic Desktops apply Semantic Web methods for desktop applications extending the personal desktop into a collaboration environment which supports both the personal information management and the sharing and exchange across desktop applications.

semantic desktop is a part of the Semantic Web Topic Hierarchy. It was introduced in version 2 as described in History of the Semantic Web Topic Hierarchy.
